If person is on at least 3 medicines for hypertension and BP is still more than 5-10 mm Hg above goal, it is better to rule out white coat hypertension. Masked hypertension When clinic BP is falsely high. Detected by home BP records which are normal. May be confirmed by ambulatory BP. If a person is not a known hypertensive and is having elevated BP, it is better to rule out masked hypertension. If a treated hypertensive has high CVD risk or has target organ damage, in spite of normal clinic BP, it is better to rule out masked hypertension.
